Co-Founder & Chief Creative Officer
Roya has a graduate degree in architecture but has also worked in many other experiential design fields. Throughout all her work, she has been passionate about creating transformative experiences that have personal or social impact. Her commitment to creating positive social change and empowering young people to do the same was the inspiration and driving force behind the co-creation of High Resolves in 2005 and her deep involvement since. She is also the Founder of Videos for Change: a powerful global platform that is enabling and amplifying the voice of young people to creatively engage with social issues and catalyse positive change in the world.
I am passionate about High Resolves because…
I am passionate about contributing in some small way to the creation of a world with unity in diversity, and where justice and equality of opportunity is upheld and experienced by all. I am joyous and privileged to work towards this vision with the impressive and multi-talented team at High Resolves.
Global Chief Operating Officer
Paul Kelsey was the inaugural CEO for High Resolves for ten years in Australia and is now the Global Chief Operating Officer. Prior to High Resolves, Paul was in various senior management positions in financial services for over 20 years.
I am passionate about High Resolves because…
I am passionate about High Resolves more than ever now because I have three teenage children, and I see first-hand how difficult it is for young teenagers to develop a genuine sense of empathy for global issues and to feel empowered to make a difference.
When it comes to shaping society, youth voice is often marginalized: they have no right to vote and little or no say in policy formulation. It is no surprise that young people across the globe appear to have lost faith in democracy and institutional authority.
In response, youth are raising their voices to challenge adults to do what clearly needs to be done. Following the Parkland shooting, high school students Emma González and David Hogg led March for Our Lives to demand stricter gun control in America. Young Swede, Greta Thunberg, inspired school strikes across the world to draw attention to the climate change crisis.
Imagine what the world could look like if we could mobilize millions of young people to drive social advocacy, for many issues, and in many communities?
We have forged a global alliance to take our proven programs and approaches to communities across the world in an innovative, cost-effective way. Our global alliance brings together a powerful coalition of organizations including Teach for All, Cinépolis, Participant Media, the Boston Consulting Group, and the World Bank to activate the energy and amplify the voices of millions of young people as a catalyst for broader societal change, both locally and globally.
Our solution draws on a set of synergistic partnerships to deliver a combination of learning experiences or “strings”, which consist of three reinforcing elements: peak experiences, repeated practice, and real world applications.
• Cinema as a peak experience. World Bank research has established the transformative impact of film and media narratives in reframing social norms. Our approach begins with a designed collective “peak experience” film screening (and discussion) at one of Cinépolis’ 5,770 cinemas or their community-centred pop-up screens.
• Repeated practice in the classroom. We will train associates from Teach For All affiliates in each country to facilitate participatory experiences that deepen the understanding of new concepts from working memory into long-term memory.
• Social advocacy videos as a real-world application. Our powerful Videos for Change platform empowers young people to create one-minute videos to address social issues as part of both school and regional competitions. This activity unleashes the voices of young people in inspiring and powerful ways and is a catalyst for conversations on these issues as the first step to breaking down barriers at a grass-roots level.
At the heart of our project is a global aspiration to develop millions of young people as leaders with the empathy and sense of agency to shape a better future. Our belief is that the only way to do this is to unleash their leadership in making the world better today. Project Amplify will build a movement to do that across whole countries, with an ultimate vision of doing it everywhere in the world.
